Description: A small tree with an irregular open crown common on moist soil in forest understory and edges of openings. Fruit matures purplish-red in late summer and can be eaten fresh or used for making jelly. Fruits are eaten by some species of birds and mammals. Leaves may be browsed by white-tailed deer during the summer. Bark is rough and scaly. Also commonly called Bigtree plum.
